What is the "Battle for Benny"?

The Battle for Benny is a combination of endurance, academics, and skill that will take place at various locations surrounding Ball State University. Teams of two (2) will participate in a race around campus which is a mixture of a 5k, obstacle course, and scavenger hunt similar the popular CBS show "The Amazing Race". 

The Race will all begin at 1 p.m. at LaFollette Field, right outside Worthen Arena and teams will be given an initial task. After the completion of their first task, the team will receive a clue to where the next challenge awaits. Teams will travel by foot to their next location and will complete an additional task. The first team to complete all tasks around the campus will be crowned as the Winners and will receive two (2) $250 airline gift cards (Airline to be announced).

Rules
  • This is a FAMILY-FRIENDLY event.

  • Each team should only have two (2) members.

    • Teammates should be dressed similarly and APPROPRIATE.

  • Registration fees are non-refundable.

    • There will be no refunds issued to those who register but cannot make the event. If you are disqualified based on breaking conduct rules and/or city/state laws, you will not receive a refund. All transactions are final.

  • To ease the registration process,​ each team members can pay individually.

    • BUT if one team member waits after the early registration period to pay their fee, they will have to pay the normal registration fee of $17.50 per person instead.

    • There is a processing fee for all credit card transactions​ of 2%

    • If you prefer to pay your registration fee in cash​, please contact Dr. Khirey Walker (kbwalker@bsu.edu) as soon as possible!

  • Some sort of identification (BSU ID or Driver's License) will be required for Check-In

    • At least one participant needs to be a current student, faculty member, or staff member of BSU with a valid BSU e-mail address.​

    • Minimum age to participate is 13 years old.

  • The event will be postponed due to inclement weather (e.g., thunderstorms), but will go on if there is light rain in the area.

    • Rain Date is April 22nd.​

  • This race includes Physical (Athletic) Challenges, Mental (Academic) Challenges, and Food Challenges.​

    • Challenges will require either one or both participants to complete the task.

    • Participants must notify the race coordinators of any food preferences or food allergies prior to the race, so accommodations can be made.

    • Normal street laws apply - Utilize Crosswalks and adhere to street lights.​

    • Team members must stay together and cannot begin a challenge unless BOTH participants are at the next station.​

  • Teams should bring a backpack to carry their clues, bottled water, or other essentials needed to complete the race.​​
